DO YOU KNOW HOW A WATER METER LOOKS IN THE INSIDE?

Water meters are very nice challenges as far as CFD simulations are concerned. I could not imagine until I saw myself: in the very detailed geometry there are small gaps, nozzles, guide vanes that control the water flow.

Not so long ago we analysed two types of water meters. On 6 geometry variations - within the two types - 28 simulations were made. We could show all those tendencies which reassured the development path of the meters.

Among others it was our task to analyse the effect on the rev of the wheel of a 0.15mm change in the geometry. Even such a small change has significant effect on the accuracy of the meter and this effect was proven by CFdesign.

The biggest strength of CFdesign is motion simulation. Since it is based on Finite Element Method (FEM) one of the advantages is that it does not have to remesh the whole model in every iteration. This is why CFdesign is much faster that the traditional CFD codes in terms of motion simulation. Of course making a motion analysis in CFdesign has its own tricks which are not know to the wide public.

Do you know how many modifications can be carried out and analysed on the geometry of a water meter? What about the possible changes on the geometry of your product? There are many possible changes. It would cost you a lot of money to check even a fragment of the possible changes with prototypes…
